Narrative

An employee had just been lifted in a crane basket to the top of a bridge pier that was under construction. He unhooked his safety belt lanyard from the crane basket, stepped onto the top of the bridge pier, and waved for the crane operator to move the crane basket away from the pier. Immediately afterward, he lost his footing and fell approximately 18 feet to the ground below, suffering two broken wrists, several broken ribs, and lacerations to the face.
