Two employees were moving 40-foot long pipes (30 inches in diameter and weighing over 1,000 lbs.) on an elevated pipe rack into the pipe coating facility. While moving the last pipe, one employee's right hand was caught between a stationary pipe and the moving pipe, partially amputating his right ring fingertip and avulsing his right long fingernail with a nailbed laceration. He was hospitalized overnight.
