An employee was standing in a 6.5- to 7-foot deep excavation preparing to install a plastic drainage pipe when part of one excavation wall caved in, burying the lower half of the employee's body in dirt. A large chunk of dirt also rolled against his upper body. He was hospitalized with fractures to the pelvis and several vertebrae.
