An employee was using a ladder to enter a pit to remove rails and install machines. The employee stepped off the ladder approximately 1 foot from the pit floor and tripped over a pit rail, falling to the ground (the rail was not unbolted from the ground at this time and is a fixed part of the pit). The employee was hospitalized with a broken right femur.
