An employee was at the rear of a dump truck, inspecting its load. As the dump body was lowered, the chain securing the tailgate disconnected from the chain lock, enabling the tailgate to swing free and strike the employee from behind. He was knocked to the ground and suffered a laceration to the top of head that required sutures and staples. He was hospitalized.
