An employee removed the protective covering of the elevator brake (brake cap). The brake coil sleeve got caught on the brake plunger and the employee lost his balance. The brake cap, which is a heavy piece of cast metal, fell onto the employee's right hand, breaking his thumb. The injury required hospitalization and surgery.
