An employee was standing between two machines while extending the screed on a spray paver. Upon flipping the control switch to stop the screed extension, the switch failed to stop the extension and the employee was pinned between the screed and an asphalt distributor tire. The employee's ability to breathe was blocked and he sustained a fractured hip.
