The employee was removing a valve cap cover off a first-stage discharge cylinder when trapped pressure released, causing the valve cap to strike the employee's hand and arm. The employee sustained a laceration and partial amputation of the right index finger. They required surgery for fractures to the arm and injury to tendons and ligaments.
