An employee was adding a chemical containing 24-50% sodium hydroxide (Class 8 material) to an aluminum tanker truck. The cargo tank exploded which caused the release of approximately 3,000 gallons of the chemical. The employee was hospitalized with severe chemical burns to their upper body.
