An employee was fixing a bracket and piston on a trailer that was attached to a truck. The employee was holding a hydraulic cylinder, trying to get it to reach the bracket on the trailer but it was approximately 3/4" short. The employee used the hydraulic lever on the side of the trailer to raise the cylinder the needed distance and the cylinder caught their left middle finger between the trailer and the bracket. The employee sustained amputation of the left middle finger.
