A contractor employee was standing next to a car lift that was lifting an 8-foot snowplow blade into position so it could be loaded into the bed of a pickup truck. The plow blade had been lifted approximately 3 feet off the ground and was secured to the lift with a ratcheting tie-down strap. The employee went to check that the blade had been lifted high enough. The plow blade became unbalanced and fell off the lift, striking the employee's lower leg. The employee was hospitalized with a fractured leg and contusions.
