Narrative

An employee was adjusting the spreader bar on a 4-foot trench box while a loader held the trench box's sidewall. As the employee was checking the bar's alignment in order to install the safety pin, the trench box shifted and his finger was caught between the spreader bar and the collar on the sidewall. He suffered an amputation to the ring fingertip, without loss of bone.
